“Having lost my mother to breast cancer in 2003, I was devastated to be diagnosed with DCIS earlier this year (at almost the same age as my mother at diagnosis). However I was lucky to have been diagnosed at a much earlier stage and the team at Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone ensured all the tests required were scheduled promptly and kept fully informed from the outset. My prognosis was good, but it didn't stop me worrying about all eventualities. “Victoria has been a wonderful consultant throughout my breast cancer journey. Diagnosed with DCIS in late 2021, I was traumatised. But Victoria helped me to understand more about this early breast cancer and how it can be successfully treated. I was unlucky in needing 4 excisions to finally remove it all and get the margins right. At one time a mastectomy was discussed but luckily I didn’t have to go that route. A lumpectomy and LTAP reconstruction was performed instead. Follow up and care, consultations with Victoria and the Breast care team have been fantastic.”
