Breast Implant Check
Book A Breast Implant Health Check
Regular health checks for breast implants are a crucial aspect of post-implant care. These checks help to prevent and identify any potential health concerns. Additionally, we offer same-day results to provide you with peace of mind.
Why do I need a breast implant check up?
The quality and technology of breast implants have come along in leaps and bounds over the last few decades. Whilst there is no expiration date for breast implants, they are by no mean a lifetime device. Breast implants are a long-term commitment and they will almost certainly require maintenance of some kind. It’s important to have an implant health check even if you are happy with your breasts and are not experiencing any problems, as breast implant complications can be subtle. They may not cause immediate discomfort or a change in the appearance of your breasts.
How will I know if I have a problem with my breast implants?
One third of women who have implant ruptures aren’t even aware about them. They’re what we call silent ruptures. In my experience, many women start to present with problems related to their breast implants on average, after 10-15 years. Implant leak, rupture and rotation may cause a change in the appearance of your breasts. It is also common for women to develop capsular contracture. A capsule is natural scarring that forms around your breast Implant, which is a foreign device in your body. In some women, the capsule thickens and contracts, leading to hardening, discomfort or pain in the breasts. Over time, it can also change the shape of the breasts.
What happens during a breast implant checkup ?
During your breast implant check up, I will meet with you for an assessment of the health of your breast implants. This includes the following:
Clinical examination: A clinical examination of your breast implants. At the same time, I will also check your breast for any lumps or bumps.
Imaging investigation: You will have an ultrasound of the breast to check the integrity of your implants. Ultrasound is a cost-effective, minimally invasive and reliable method of checking implant health. On occasion, if there is any concern, an MRI of the breasts may be recommended as this provides a more in-depth examination of the implants.
Bespoke implant plan: If you are experiencing any issues with your implants, or if the tests demonstrate an issue with your implants, we will be able to go through your options and design a bespoke implant revision plan to suit your needs.
How much is a breast implant check?
The initial consultation price is £250 and the subsequent investigations will be charged according to what is needed in your particular case. The price of the scan will depend on what is required such as an ultrasound or an MRI. If you are over 40 and a breast lump is felt during the assessment, a mammogram may also be recommended. We will provide you with an exact pricing once you have been assessed.
Is an MRI better than an ultrasound?
MRI scans are the most accurate type of scan for assessing the implants for rupture. However, some patients can feel claustrophobic or not suitable for the MRI scanner. In these cases, an ultrasound may be a suitable alternative.
